En el último día del año que todo el mundo está pensando en cambiar, ya que empieza un nuevo año, quieren cambiar sus hábitos, ser mejores personas, tener vidas más saludables y un largo etc… Todo por que empieza un nuevo año y un número cambia. Pues yo digo ” TU DEBES SER EL CAMBIO QUE DESEAS VER EN EL MUNDO”, Gandhi. No hace falta replantearse la vida sólo por que un número cambia, debes hacerlo constantemente.

Ya ha llegado el invierno a NY, el frío, la nieve y la calefacción empieza a funcionar. Una de las tantas sorpresas en esta ciudad, es la calefacción que funciona con vapor. Lo más sorprendente no es que sea de vapor, sino el tremendo ruido que hacen los radiadores. Al ser un sistema que funciona con el vapor de agua, necesita liberarse expulsando el aire por aquí:

No soy muy experta en calefacciones, pero no parece un mejor sistema que el convencional que hay en la mayoría de las casas europeas, el de agua. La calefacción con vapor, calienta mucho, demasiado. Tenemos un sistema de calefacción central, el “super” (como el portero del edificio) se encarga de encender la caldera y mandar calor a todos los pisos del edificio. Supuestamente puedes regular la temperatura del radiador por aquí:

Con lo que no regulas nada, lo único que se consigue es abrir o cerrar el paso de vapor para calentar el apartamento. A veces vamos en manga corta por casa, mientras fuera estamos a 2 ºC, no es un sistema demasiado ecológico. No es sólo nuestro edificio, parece que este sistema tan arcaico es normal por este país. Por suerte, Obama, con sus mensajes semanales, ya ha empezado a decir que quiere cambiar el sistema de calefacción del país, esperemos que lo consiga.

EL ruido es bastante insoportable, lo peor es cuando estás durmiendo, porque a veces es tan fuerte que te despiertas de un buen susto. Lo que hemos tenido que hacer es apagar el radiador de la habitación, para no oirlo y poder dormir tranquilamente aunque un poco más fríos.

The winter has come to NY, the cold, the snow and the heats are running. One of many surprises of this amazing city, is the heat that works with steam. The most surprising is not the steam, but the horrible noise that the radiators do. As a system that works with the water’s steam, needs to be free taking out the air by here:

I’m not an expert with heats, but it doesn’t seem a better system than the one you can find in almost all European houses, with water. The steam’s radiators heat a lot, too much. We have a heating central system, the super turn it on when it’s cold and sends heat to all the apartments of the building. Supposedly you can adjust the temperature here:

You can’t adjust anything with this, the only thing you can get is to open or close the radiator to let the steam go through to heat the apartment. Sometimes we wear t-shirts, while outside is 2ºC (35F), it’s not too ecologic. It’s not just our appartment, it seems that this old system is usual in this country. Luckily, Obama, in his weekly messages, has already said that wants to improve the heating systems of the country, we hope he can achieve it.

The noise is really unbearable, the worst thing is while you are sleeping, because sometimes is so hard that you wake up with a big fright. What we have had to do is to turn off the radiator of the room, we don’t want to hear it in the middle of the night, now we can sleep with calm but a little colder.

This picture was taken in the neighborhood of Chinatown. I’m curious and I love to look the food shops in this area, because it seems that you are in China. Not just for the food they have but even if you want to know what’s it, you have to know chinese!. You have to know their language to know what to buy and to understand the salesman. This is NY

Como siempre andar por NY es una caja de sorpresas. Esta vez he encontrado las ventanas de una casa adornadas para Navidad de manera muy especial y muy trabajado, en East Village.

You can always find a surprise walking in NY. This time I found the windows of a house decorated for Christmas in a very special and worked way, in East Village.

Este vídeo es una pequeña muestra de la primera y gran nevada desde que estoy en NY, esto sucedió el pasado viernes 19 de diciembre. Hoy miércoles, las calles singuen con nieve, mejor dicho con hielo, están blancas pero es un poco peligroso andar.

This video is just a small sample of the first and big snow storm since I’m in Ny, this was last Friday Dec.19th. Today Wednesday, the streets are still with snow, it’s not soft snow but ice, they are white but it’s dangerous to walk through.

Paseando por Broadway, me encontré con una sesión fotográfica de una modelo.

Walking on Broadway, I found a model’s photographic shooting.

Se empezó a llenar de gente haciéndole fotos y grabándola, pero ella posaba como sí nada, como si no hubiese nadie a su alrededor, imagino que la costumbre.

There was a lot of people looking at her, but she was there posing as if nobody was around her, I imagine that she is use to it.

La chica estaba temblando, y cada vez que el fotógrafo paraba de tomar fotos, una mujer se encargaba de taparla con una bata. Realmente hacía mucho frío.

The woman was shivering, and every time the photograph stopped, there was another woman that covered her with a robe. It was really freezing.

Otro mosaico de “invader”, este está en el Art District, en el barrio de Chelsea.

Another mosaic from “invader”, this one is at “Art District”, in Chelsea’s neighborhood.

El artista “invader”, está por todas partes del mundo. Paseando por Brooklyn, por la zona de Williamsburg concretamente, me encontré uno de sus mosaicos. Éstos son una representación del pixelado juego de los ‘70 llamado “space invader”. Suele escoger sitios transitados por mucha gente o sitios escondidos de la ciudad, donde te sorprende encontrar este pequeño aporte de color en la calle.

Siempre me ha fascinado encontrarme estos mosaicos por la ciudad, el artista va dejando su rastro por donde pasa y me encanta como lo hace. Los colores, las formas… En Barcelona hay uno aquí, en la pared, no recuerdo el nombre de la plaza (¿NY me hace olvidar Barcelona?).

Yo pensaba que el tipo llegaba al lugar e iba colocando pieza por pieza, pero es más organizado, se los prepara antes de viajar al lugar y cuando llega a la ciudad lo único que hace es ponerlos en los sitios que el cree apropiados (imagen de invader pillado infraganti en Bilbao).

Actualmente también está trabajando en un proyecto que se llama “Rubikcubism”, que trata de hacer arte con las piezas del famosos cubo rubick, como esto:

Tha artist “invader“, is around the world. Walking in Brooklyn, in Williamsburg to be precise, I found one of his mosaics. These are a representation of the pixeled ’70s game called “space invader”. He uses to choose very busy streets or hidden locations, where you are surprised to find this small contribution of color in the street.

I have always been fascinated to find these mosaics in the city, the artist leaves his sign where he goes and I love the way he does it. The colours, the shape… In Barcelona there is one here, on the wall, I don’t remember the name of the place (Does NY make me forget Barcelona?).

I thought that the artist arrived to the place and he was placing piece by piece, but he is more organized, he prepares it before to travel and when he arrives to the city he just has to put them where he think is the right place (image of “invader” caught in Bilbao).

Nowadays, he is working in a project called “Rubikcubism”, he makes art with pieces of Rubick’s Cubes, like this: image (image from: sixspace).

La belleza es tu cabeza, pero lo bello no es tu cabello.

The beauty is your head, but the beautiful isn’t your hair.

Suelo encontrarme la frase “La belleza es tu cabeza” por las calles de Barcelona, me sorprendió encontrarmela también en New York. La aclaración “pero lo bello no es tu cabello”, no está en Barcelona, ¿por que en New York sí? Tengo la frase en una cutre foto de móvil, como fondo de pantalla en la pda:

I use to see the sentence “the beauty is your head” for Barcelona’s streets, but I was surprised to find it in New York as well. The explanation “but the beatiful isn’t your hair” it is not in Barcelona, why is it in New York? I have the sentence as wallpaper in my pda, a bad quality picture. (The sentence sounds better in spanish ^_^)
